AIRBUS UK Broughton will enter an expanded Word Cup competition at the second round stage next season.

The FAW has announced that 24 teams will compete for the trophy - the 12 Welsh Premier clubs, the eight leading clubs from the tier two feeder leagues and, in a new initiative, four wildcard entries.

Any club that believes that they should be considered for one of the wildcards places can contact the FAW by Friday May 30 stating their reasons and staking their claim for one of the available places, but must have floodlights at their home ground.

"The new format of the competition gives the Level 2 clubs a great chance to battle against our Welsh Premier teams and the innovation of four wildcards allows any clubs, geographically located in Wales, the opportunity to enter this new and exciting competition," says FAW head of competitions Andrew Howard.

Last season's four semi-finalists - Carmarthen Town, Bala Town, Cambrian & Clydach and Airbus UK Broughton - will enter the competition at the second round stage with dates as follows:

  • Round 1: August 11, 13 and 14
  • Round 2: September 2 and 3
  • Round 3: September 23 and 24
  • Semi-finals: November 18 and 19
  • Final: January 25

Last season, the Wingmakers beat The New Saints on the way to the semi-final, where they were eliminated by Bala Town.
