AIRBUS Ladies team was first set up more than 25 years ago in Wrexham and was managed by the husband of a player who worked in the plant.
They had problems getting pitches and after a few months had to find a new pitch and started being allowed to play on the Airbus pitch provided they changed their name to Broughton Wings Ladies. That quickly changed to Airbus Ladies and for many years the club was managed by players, their partners and anyone who was happy to step up, but it had no real structure to it.
Airbus Ladies were playing in the English North West Womens Regional League (NWWRFL) which they won twice. In 2009 there was a lot of unrest in the team, numbers had declined and it was being managed poorly by players. The team was going to disband but a couple of people stepped up and decided to keep it going.
In 2010/11 Airbus Ladies was given a facelift - new management, new players, new start, Week in week out they were being hammered 13-0,10-0, 12-0 but the amazing team spirit shone through and we knew if we just kept going it would all come good.
In 2011/12 the Ladies made the move to the Welsh League and joined the North Wales Womens Football League (NWWFL) that they play in today. By 2012/13 we were beaten to the top spot by Kinmel Bay Ladies on goal difference, just one goal in it! We did win the League Cup that year beating Denbigh Ladies 1-0.
Airbus ladies have always been a standalone club within a club and were self funding and struggled for sponsorship for many years. That all changed in 2016/17 when we had talks with Airbus and became part of the Airbus football family where the women now receive the same benefits as all the teams within the club. This includes top quality coaching and management which has changed things enormously for the team.
The team has come a long way and now has the reputation of being one of the best in the League and we are in the lucky position of having to turn players away that want to sign for us. We won the League shield competition in season 2016/17.
