No Bank Holiday justice for Wingmakers at Bala

IF ever a defeat was undeserved it was at Maes Tegid on Bank Holiday Monday as Airbus crashed 2-1 to Bala Town to a late and debatable penalty.

The Wingmakersm who had dominated possession for much of the contest, fell behind to a goal against the run of play and then looked destined for a more than deserved share of the spoils until a late spot kick in stoppage time.

Ryan Wade had an early shot saved by Bala keeper Ashley Morris and then fired over the bar from a Tony Gray knockdown as the visitors dominated the early exchanges.

At the other end, ex-Wingmaker Ian Sheridan was unable to get a shot away but the ball fell to Kieran Smith whose effort was hacked away.

On the half hour and totally against the run of play the Lakesiders took the lead/ Ashley Williams conceded a free kick just outside the box when he brought down Sheridan and Mark Connolly's free-kick was fired home by Anthony Stephens.

Tom Field responded with a long range effort that flew over the bar and Sheridan tried his luck with a 30-yarder that hit the side netting.

Airbus went close to an equaliser soon after half time with a superb curling effort from Wade which hit the far post and rebounded to safety.

Ryan Fraughan curled a 12-yarder over the target from a Wade cross and Gray's snap shot was deflected over the bar.

Chris Budrys also went close with a header from Matty McGinn's long throw before Airbus keeper James Coates was called into action to save from David Artell.

Jordan Barrow was narrowly wide from 25 yards before Coates made a good punched save from Kieran Smith.

Morris made a superb flying save from Gray's header but the striker was not to be denied, firing home from close range three minutes from time.

A point appeared to be in the bag until Smith was adjudged to have been brought down in the box and Stephens completed his brace from the penalty spot to seal the three points.
