DIRECTOR of football Andy Preece shuffled his pack for Saturday's game against Carmarthen.
And, despite a 2-1 defeat, Preece was pleased with the performances of two of his young charges, Zyaac Edwards and Aaron Hassall, who were both handed their Welsh Premier League debuts.
Hassall became the youngest player to score in a Wingmakers shirt - and the second youngest-ever in the league - at the age of 16 years 8 months.
And Edwards was not overawed by the occasion showing some neat touches against a physical Old Gold outfit.
"I was really pleased with the two young lads' performances," Preece said.
"Carmarthen are a strong physical side, so for 16 and 17 year old lads it was going to be a character test not just about ability.
"The lads both coped well and at times were too clever with their passing and movement.
"Zyaac dealt well against one of the best and most experienced defenders and showed some nice touches and could have scored with a volley.
"He has already turned the chance to sign for a professional club this season.
"Aaron showed great ability and awareness with his goal. The way he dummied and rolled the defender was top class and his finish was clinical.
"For a 16 year old he looked two moves ahead of the opposition at times and is going to go on and have a professional career.
"The last player who made such an impression on debut for me was David Nugent as a 16-year-old at Bury; hopefully he can follow in his footsteps.
"These are exciting times ahead for everyone and shows the plans we put in place two and a half years ago with the help of [academy director] Lee Starkey are starting to show benefits to the players and club," Preece added.
