ANDY Owens made amends for missing the away defeat at TNS with a brace as Airbus defeated Newtown 2-0 at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium.

Owens missed last week’s 6-2 defeat due to a trip away for his 30th birthday but Joe Palmer's long ball forward found the striker wide on the right and he cut inside before curling a shot past keeper Dave Jones from 12 yards out.

Keeper Lewis Hall almost gifted an equaliser when his attempted clearance rebounded off former Wignmaker Ian Sheridan, but luckily went wide of the target.

After the break, Owens sent a volley whistling just wide from Matty Sargent's cross while, at the other end, Joe Kenton spurned a good chance in front of goal while Sheridan flicked a header wide of the far post.

But, with the Robins' defence at sixes and sevens after a Jack Kelly clearance was charged down, Jordan Evans found Owens on the edge of the box and the in-form frontman made no mistake to seal the three points.

“Andy took his goals well,” said assistant boss Andrew Thomas. “He had a nice week off last week, but he’s a big player for us.

“He’s one of the older players with the likes of Steve Tomassen and Sam Hart.

“We’ve got a lot of young players, who are good footballers and they need some older players around them to help them through at times.”
