RUNCORN Town provided another good pre-season workout for the Wingmakers in a 2-2 draw at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium.
Managed by ex-Airbus frontman Chris Herbert, the visitors included several familiar faces in their squad including former Wingmaker Paul McManus and ex-Nomads' midfielder Craig Jones.
Town enjoyed the better of the early exchanges and, after Craig Cairns had hit the top of the crossbar, they took the lead when keeper Andy Coughlin came to the edge of his box to clear only for the ball to rebound for Rob Doran to fire home.
Missing several key players, the hosts struggled to create chances and the scoreline remained the same until into the second half when Airbus bounced back to take the lead.
Ryan Edwards swept home a fine goal from the edge of the box on the hour before an excellent pass picked-out Bailey Jackson who cooly fired into the far corner of the net six minutes later.
It took just four minutes for an equaliser to arrive for Cairns, who took advantage of some slack defending and round Coughlin before planting the ball into an empty net.
An encouraging aspect of the game was the performance of the youngsters from the club's academy system. Jack Murphy impressed after deputising at left back for the absent Stef Edwards, with several 16 and 17-year-olds coming off the bench and manager Andy Thomas praised the coaches of the Under-16s and Under-18s for bring through so many excellent players.
