WE are delighted to announce that the Academy have been invited to carry the Welsh flag and represent Wales at the opening ceremony of the Gothia Cup, the world's largest and most international youth soccer tournament.

Each year, around 1600 teams from 80 nations take part and they play 4500 games on 110 pitches.

This is a huge honour for the club as a whole and also the players and staff involved, as the expected attendance for the opening ceremony is around the 45,000 mark.

Academy Director Lee Starkey said: "We are sure that this will be an experience that the boys will never forget and one that we were extremely proud to accept."

The opening ceremony will take place on Monday 18 July and be held at the Nya Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg. It will also be streamed live on the Gothia Cup app and via their website from 6pm UK time.

Our U14 and U18 squads depart for Gothenburg on Sunday 17 July and they open their tournaments the following day, with games against CD Inter Vista Alegre (ESP) and BK Hollviken (SWE) respectively.
