AIRBUS suffered a New Year's Day hangover as they crashed to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of derby rivals gap COnnah's Quay at the Deeside Stadium.

Conceding two first-half penalties, both converted by Ricky Evans, left the Wingmakers with an uphill task and, although Sam Hart's early second-half goal gave them hope, they were soundly beaten in the end.

Despite making a bright start in which Steve Abbott had a chance and Wayne Riley fired over the bar, Nomads took a ninth-minute lead.

Goalkeeper Aaron Morrison mistimed his challenge on youngster Rhys Healey to conceded the first spot kick and was again at sea when Lee Owens shoved Healey to conceded the second five minutes before half-time.

The Wingmakers' best chance fell to Mike Hayes, but his powerful 35th-minute shot was saved by home keeper John Rushton.

Airbus came out of the blocks looking to make amends after the interval and scored immediately, Sam Hart's 15-yard shot taking a wicked deflection off a defender before looping over Rushton to nestle in the back of the net.

Ian Kearney clipped the angle of near post and bar in the next attack, but revival hopes were short-lived as the Wingmakers failed to clear a 52nd-minute corner and Jamie Wynne forced to ball home.

Substitute Chris Budrys was denied in a one-on-one with Rushton and fellow replacement Jordan Johnson fired narrowly wide from 20 yards.

But the win was sealed four minutes from time when Jamie Petrie surged into the box and fired into the far corner.
