Sgorio's Nicky John has been chatting to some familiar faces from the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League. This week, she chats to Airbus UK’s James Owen.

The second half of the season is now upon us, what are your thoughts in general about the first half?
I think the first half was interesting all round in terms of results and performances.

We always knew it was going to be tough to challenge TNS and that has proved to be the case; but this year there are several teams competing for the second spot and I think that shows how much the league is improving.

Even though we’re in 4th place at the split, we’re still confident as a team about climbing back up the table and hopefully sealing that second place.

There are a few teams that will be disappointed with where they are in the league, but football is a funny old game and things can change quickly.

Which performance have you been most pleased with?
Over the last couple of months we’ve really been playing well, winning games and scoring lots of great goals along the way.

Personally, I enjoyed our game against TNS which was live on Sgorio. I got voted Man of the Match by Malcolm Allen, but I’m not sure he was watching the same game that I was playing in!

Which game has been most disappointing?
Losing at home by Cefn Druids 3-2 has to be one of the most disappointing as we looked as though we’d never played with each other before in that match.

Equally disappointing was our game against TNS at home when we conceded a last minute goal to lose 3-2 after playing so well during the rest of the game.

Which of your team-mates do you most admire, and why?
Mike Pearson. Last season he played every minute of every league game which is unbelievable for any player to do – especially Mike as I’ve played with him for the last five years, and he has been injured during three of them!!

Which players have you come up against this season that have impressed you?
Even though I haven’t played against Chris Venables this season, he’s in such great form and his scoring record is brilliant.

Adrian Cieslewicz is another player in good form in his first season at TNS – it’s always hard playing against him as he’s so fast, and I on the other hand am probably up there with the slowest players in the Welsh Premier League!

I think the player that has caused us the most problems as a team is Cortez Belle – he’s a real handful and a dangerous player.

What’s your earliest football memory?
When I was about seven years old, even though rugby was everything in my house, I can remember playing my first game of football for Cae Glyn. After a few more games, rugby went out of the window!

What’s the best game you’ve ever been to see as a fan?
I went to watch many Man United games when I was younger, but I’ll never forget going to watch Caernarfon vs Bangor in a mid-week cup game where Lee Jones scored a 30 yard screamer for Caernarfon to make it 4-3 and win the game.

Who was your favourite player as a child?
I was a Man United fan growing up and David Beckham was my favourite player. Every time I got a new shirt, Beckham’s name would be printed on the back. When my parents used to buy me boots they always had to be predators because that’s what Beckham wore.

Which player do you most admire now, and why?
It’s got to be Gareth Bale as a fellow Welshman. He’s playing at the highest level with the best players in the world.

What’s your job?
I have recently been promoted to a co-ordinator at a bakery called Primebake.

Favourite TV programme?
Sgorio… Good answer, James!

With work, coaching and playing I don’t get much time to watch TV, but when Prison Break was out that was my favourite. The next time I watch the box set it will be my 5th time of watching the series!

Favorite meal?
You can’t beat a good greasy fry up! Not your normal pre-match meal!

Favourite holiday location?
Disneyland Florida! My parents used to take me there as a child. I went back in May and I was still like a big kid!

Favourite away trip in the WPL?
It’s going to have to be Bangor because it’s near my home town, Caernarfon.

Plus I get a lot of stick from the fans for being a Cofi which always makes me laugh and gets me through the game.

What music do you most like to listen to ahead of a game?
It isn’t my choice – the lads have a rubbish dance playlist in the dressing room! If I had my own way, it would have to be Elvis.

If you could do any other job in the world for a day, what would you do and why?
My dream job for one day would be anything that would make me a millionaire!

Remember, you can catch James and Airbus UK as they welcome Bala to the Airfield live on Sgorio on Sunday, kick off 1pm.
