THE management of both clubs were left frustrated as the WPL fixture between Airbus UK Broughton and Afan Lido was called off 40 minutes before kick-off on Saturday.

With the warm-ups about to start, referee Brian James decided the pitch was unplayable leaving the south Wales visitors with a fruitless eight hour return journey and the prospect of being forced to travel north in midweek for the re-arranged game.

Wingmakers' chief operating officer Stewart Roberts explained why no inspection took place: "Although our pitch was bad today it was much better than Boxing day - no water just soft so playable in our view! Unbelievable decision.

"Quite rightly - Airbus wish to apologise to anyone that travelled."

There was some compensation with the news that rivals Prestatyn had been beaten at Aberystwyth while Bangor City dropped two points at Llanelli.

Meanwhile, Andy Preece's side will be playing catch-up with the next fixture away to Aberystwyth next Saturday with a 12 noon kick-off.
