ANDY Preece split the Wingmakers' squad in two on Saturday to ensure as many players as possible were able to get 90 minutes of football under their belts ahead of the new season.

The first game of the day saw Airbus draw 1-1 at Skelmersdale United with a goal from a trialist while, a couple of hours later, another squad lost 3-2 at Clitheroe FC.

The Evo Stik outfit produced a good all-round performance and took the lead from the penalty spot on 16 minutes through Alex Johnson, who doubled his tally a quarter of an hour into the second half as he latched onto a long ball forward from keeper Hakan Burton.

Jack Higgins temporarily kept the visitors at bay with a clearance from underneath his own crossbar before Airbus hit back with two quick-fire goals as the game approached the final 10 minutes.

Zyiac Edwards and an own goal put the Wingmakers back on level terms, but the winning goal was scored by Andy Naylor after 84 minutes when he side-footed home Marcus Calvert’s deflected effort.
