SEVERAL young Wingmakers sparkled as Airbus won the cross-border derby against Saltney Town 4-0 to progress to the third round of the Welsh Cup.

All four goals were claimed by some of the talent in Richard Chapman's burgeoning Under-19 development squad while youngsters Lee Jones, Jack Murphy and George Peers were all handed starts.

Airbus took a seventh-minute lead when Peers headed home for his second goal in two games after Alfons Fosu-Mensah had out-muscled Lewis Burgess to cross from the byline.

But, despite the final margin of victory, the game remained finely balanced for the next hour as the plucky Bordermen proved redoubtable opponents. The visitors claimed for a penalty at the end of a good flowing move while, at the other end, Pavel Vieira was just over with a 20-yard effort before Fosu-Mensah skied a shot over the bar.

Leo Riley was inches wide with a curling 20-yard free kick before Murphy fired over. After the break, Saltney's Rhys Cooper made a good run and fired narrowly over the bar from 20 yards out but it was the hosts who finally extended their lead on 65 minutes when a Fosu-Mensah shot was parried by keeper Mike Edwards and youngster Blake Robinson tapped home the rebound for his first senior goal.

Another Under-19, Harvey Ellis, came off the bench and claimed a quickfire brace, first from a Wes Baynes right-wing cross and then heading home from 12-yards from a Vieira cross to send Airbus comfortably into the third round draw.
