AIRBUS claimed a double by lifting the Huws Gray League Cup with a 5-1 demolition of Holyhead Hotspur.

The Wingmakers made the best possible start in the Conwy sunshine when James Hooper cut in from the left before unleashing a shot into the bottom corner.

Leading by that goal at the interval, Airbus were pegged back when Chris Jones headed Hotspur level following a corner. But their hopes of building on that goal were soon extinguished.

Man of the match Hooper got between two defenders to poke home Steve Tomassen's long throw-in from 12 yards and Asa Hamilton then headed home at the far post.

Hotspur's chances were further dashed when keeper Carl Jones was red-carded after bring down Lewis Buckley outside the box. The resulting Kristian Platt free kick came to nothing, but the stand-in gloveman was beaten by a Ryan Edwards strike before academy sub Harvey Ellis put the icing on the cake with a fifth.

"After a scrappy first half on a bobbly pitch we really upped the tempo and went through the gears impressively," said assistant manager Andy Thomas. "We created so many chances and could have put a few more away because we were so on top.

"The lads have produced another quality performance after a really successful season for the club. It was a great day for us and gives us something to build on for next season in the Welsh Premier."
