Today, the FAW have confirmed the structure of Tier 2 in readiness for the return to action.

Airbus will play in two competitions, the Cyrmu North, which has been restructured to a 15 game competition, and the Nathaniel MG Cup which comences next week (11/12 December). Here is everything you need to know:

League Format

Having considered all options, the Board yesterday confirmed the format for the Cymru South and North.

For the 2020/21 season, the League will adopt the following format:

  • 15-match season
  • Each side to play each other once

In this format, some sides will have 8 home matches and 7 away matches. The clubs who receive more home matches will be determined by a random draw. Further information on the draw will follow in due course, as well as the full fixture list for the 2020/21 season.

The current proposed re-start date for the league is mid-January. However, this is subject to change depending on any future decisions taken by the Welsh Government regarding a future firebreak lockdown over the Christmas period.

To confirm, acting on behalf of the Board of Directors, the National League Board determined yesterday that; ‘For the 2020/21 season, the Clubs in each Division will play Matches against each other, either home or away, giving a maximum total of fifteen (15) Matches per Club. Each club will either play eight home matches and seven away matches, or seven home matches and eight away matches. A draw will be conducted by the General Manager to allocate the Clubs to the respective fixtures.’ This decision supersedes League Rule 16.3, which states; “In each season, the Clubs in each Division will play Matches against each other on a home and away basis, giving a maximum total of thirty (30) Matches per Club.

As per the FAW Pyramid Regulations, promotion and relegation will take place in the 2020/21 season.

Nathaniel MG Cup

The Board yesterday approved a start date for the Nathaniel MG Cup. The First Round of the competition will be played on the weekend of 11/12th December 2020. The Football Association of Wales has identified that the Nathaniel MG Cup would be an ideal opportunity for all clubs to trial the Return to Play protocols before the return of league football.

The format of the competition was approved at yesterday’s meeting, which is as follows:

Entrants:

12 Cymru Premier

32 Cymru South & North

2 wildcard entries (Cardiff City and Newport County)

Round 1

13 clubs from Cymru South

13 clubs from Cymru North

2 wildcard entries

The 13 clubs from each Tier 2 league will be determined by excluding the 3 highest ranked clubs from these respective divisions. This will be defined as the 1 relegated club from the Cymru Premier into each league from the 2019/20 season and the 2 highest ranked clubs from the division last season who did not secure promotion.

The Tier 2 clubs who are exempt from R1 are as follows:

Cymru South

Carmarthen Town, Swansea University, Briton Ferry Llansawel

Cymru North

Airbus UK Broughton, Prestatyn Town, Guilsfield

The two wildcard entries will be confirmed at a later date.

The draw for the First Round will take place on Wednesday 2nd December 2020 and will be broadcast live at 7pm on Facebook (FA Wales).

Confirmation of the First Round Fixtures will be issued following the draw. The Conference Dates for the subsequent rounds of the Nathaniel MG Cup will be issued at a later date.

The Club will relay anymore information released from either the JD Cymru League or FA Wales in due course. But we can confirm that until further notice all games played in Wales are subject to the Welsh Government rules, and therefore all games will be played behind closed doors.
