High flyers from Belgrave Primary net Community Cup win

YOUNGSTERS from 12 local primary schools across Flintshire and Cheshire took to the Airbus UK Broughton football pitch on Thursday as they competed in the third Airbus Community Cup.

The football stars of the future went head-to-head in the interschool tournament which aims to provide an inclusive sporting platform for both boys and girls, with mixed teams of eight players taking part.

The event was hosted by Airbus in conjunction with neighbouring Airbus UK Broughton Football Club, whose home ground is located next to the aerospace manufacturer’s wing assembly plant in North Wales.

"We were thrilled to host the Community Cup once again following the success of the event in previous years," said Airbus Community Relations Manager for Broughton, Phil McGraa. "We have some great facilities right on our doorstep and with the outstanding support of the Airbus UK Broughton Football Club we are thrilled to offer youngsters in the local area the opportunity to represent their school at a professional sporting venue."

The teams took part in various matches in the round robin style tournament leading to the big ‘Champions League’ final where Belgrave Primary took on Wood Memorial in a bid to take home the Community Cup trophy. Belgrave emerged victorious beating their rivals in the final, which ended 3-2, to be declared Airbus Community Cup Winners 2017. The Belgrave team will also be invited to the first home game of the 2017/2018 season as match day mascots.

"The team spirit was fantastic," said PE Coordinator at Belgrave, Jane Redmond. "All the pupils supported each other really well and the day has marked a brilliant end to year six for them."
