CALDICOT Town have been thrown out of the Welsh Cup which means that Airbus UK Broughton will now play their defeated second round opponents Penybont.

"The FAW Domestic Committee met this morning to discuss a protest received from Penybont FC, against the eligibility of a player in the FAW Welsh Cup Round 2 match, which finished Caldicot Town 3-0 Penybont FC on Saturday 16th November 2013," says a statement from the FAW.

"The Committee found Caldicot Town guilty of breaking FAW Welsh Cup Rule 19h, which states:

  • In all rounds of the Competition a player must have been a registered member of his Club by 5:00pm on the last working day before the Conference Date of the Competition.
  • In the case of postponed, drawn or replayed matches only those players shall be allowed to play who were eligible at the Conference Date.

"Although sympathetic to the situation, the Committee decided that they had to disqualify Caldicot Town from this season’s FAW Welsh Cup for breaching Rule 19h.

"As a consequence, Penybont FC have been reinstated. There is no appeal.

"Furthermore, Penybont are currently having their grass pitch re-laid to 3G and the FIFA test has been scheduled for Friday 6th December.

"Due to the uncertainty of the pitch test, given the lateness of the inspection and in case of failure, the Committee has also agreed to reverse the tie as per Rule 9a of the Welsh Cup Rules."

The third round tie at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium is on Saturday 7 December, kick-off 2.30pm.
