THE Wingmakers returned empty handed from Nantporth despite a spirited display in a 2-0 defeat by Bangor City as two goals in seven minutes soon after the break sealed the visitors' fate.

With first choice gloveman Ben Chapman suspended, Airbus were forced to hand a Welsh Premier debut to Aaron Morrison, who has been suffering from a hip injury, after being refused dispensation by the FAW to sign goalkeeping cover.

In an early attack, Lee Owens combined well with Chris Budrys to cause panic in the Citizens' defence and keeper Lee Idzi was grateful to grasp the ball from Steve Abbott's back-heel.

A surging midfielder run from Ryan Wade ended with a half-hit shot that was easily held by Idzi while, at the other end, Chris Jones skied his effort over the bar after being set-up by Chris Simm.

Ian Kearney's header forced a fine save from Idzi following a Riley corner, but keeper Morrison was grateful to a Jones header drift just wide of a post from Liam Brownhill's cross. Riley finished-off a Lee Owens pass with a sharp shot that sailed just wide of the target while Morrison gathered another Jones shot at the second attempt.

But the Wingmakers were somewhat unlucky to have nothing to show for their first-half performance when Budrys back-heeled Wade's cross inches wide.

The hosts were ahead two minutes after the break Simm headed home from a deep Chris Roberts cross. And it got even worse on 53 minutes, Morrison failing to come for Sion Edwards corner which was tapped-in at the far post by the lurking Jamie Brewerton.

Simm almost added a third with an 18-yarder that flew just over the bar while Les Davies hammered wide following a mesmerising run from Jones.

Wade almost snatched a late consolation but sent his shot wide of the far post and Budrys headed well over as Airbus went down to a second successive league defeat.
