ANDY Preece admitted the Wingmakers' performance against Newtown was not the best, but was pleased to have banked three more points in the quest for a top six finish in January.
"Tonight was a real battle and our lads dug in," he said.
"Sometimes you're not going to play at your very best and those are the important ones where you can still grind a result and, credit to our lads, we managed to do that tonight.
"Newtown are a good side, you don't beat TNS, Bangor and Llanelli in a season if you haven't got something about you.
"Obviously, us beating them 7-1 earlier in the season they came hear with a bit of a point to prove.
"But, even though I didn't think we were at our best, we did more than enough to win the game, especially in the first half.
"We had numerous opportunities and the penalty we didn't convert and the last 10 minutes they put us under a lot of pressure, Ben Chapman pulled off a couple of great saves."
The win took Airbus up to third place overnight and Preece added: "Yes, it's a nice place to be, to be above TNS at this stage of the season you have to pinch yourself.
"But it's a long way to go, on 29 points I would hope now we will make the top six so we've just to hang in their when the split comes and you never know what can happen.
"But we've go to keep pushing ourselves to make the top six."
