This time it was Airbus UK Broughton's turn to be on the receiving end of a late goal which denied them a deserved victory against a spirited Newtown side. On a cold night at the Airfield the Wingmakers dominated much of the game but ultimately paid the price for the chances they didn't take.

Airbus began as they meant to go on by applying pressure high up the pitch in an end-to-end start. Nick Rushton broke down the touchline and put in a cross which took a deflection across the face of the goal to safety. Phil Clarke struck a shot off target before Nick Rushton worked the goalkeeper following a good back-heel from Matty Cook.

The goal the home side had been looking for arrived on 17 minutes. Rushton raced to the byline once again and pulled the ball back in the area for Andy Moran to drive into the bottom right-hand corner. The Wingmakers had a 1-0 lead and seemed set to add to it as the game went on.

Newtown goalkeeper Dave Roberts nearly spilled a Matty Cook shot before Andy Moran and Simon Smith saw shots stopped by late blocks in a spell of intense Airbus pressure. Just past the half-hour mark Smith fed Phil Clarke whose fierce strike was palmed away by Roberts. Shortly after Smith played Rushton into the area. The on-loan Wrexham striker rounded two defenders but saw his shot turned away by Roberts.

Half-time arrived with the Wingmakers well on top and Newtown under the cosh. The second-half saw more Airbus pressure though Callum Hawthorne was called into action and Craig Whitfield went close for the visitors with a header. On 53 minutes a mistake from Dave Roberts presented Andy Moran with a near open goal but he couldn't get the direction he wanted on his shot and it whistled wide.

On 56 minutes the Wingmakers made their first change with Danny Desormeaux coming on in place of Simon Smith. Simultaneously Newtown replaced Jamies Breeze with Craig Davies. Three minutes later Newtown's Shane Sutton picked up a yellow card for a late challenge.

The Wingmakers were keeping possession well - Desormeaux winnnig the ball in midfield before passing to Clarke who in turn presented Moran with the opportunity of a shot from outside the area, which went narrowly wide. On 66 minutes Gio Feliciello whipped in a cross from deep on the left to the far post where Moran went close. In a near identical move a minute later it was Rushton who just missed out at the same post.

A minute after that chance Rushton was replaced with Paul McManus and almost immediately McManus had a chance with a header which went wide. The visitors then opted to replace Paul Keddle with Josh Evans. Minutes later Andy Moran headed over from another good cross from Cook. At the other end Craig Whitfield shot wildly over as the visitors showed their ability on the break.

Ashley Williams picked up a booking with quarter of an hour to go for a slightly late challenge as the Wingmakers made their final change - Richie Dorman coming on in place of Phil Clarke. Into the latter stages of the game Newtown sensed they could snatch something particularly when Hawthorne denied Whitfield with the faintest of touches from close-range.

The Wingmakers still looked to build on their slender lead and saw a specualtive shot from Cook go over the bar before the away side made their final change. With 10 minutes to go Chris Hartland came on in place of Craig Whitfield. Just when Airbus looked like seeing the game out with some neat possession they were dealt a sucker-punch.

With 5 minutes to go a route-one ball from Newtown was not dealt with defensively which let John McKenna into the area for the equaliser. The midfielder slotted his close-range shot in off the inside right-post to make it 1-1.

The final minutes saw the Wingmakers camped in the Newtown half without really threatening their goalmouth with clear-cut opportunities. The best effort was from Desormeaux who chipped a shot over with two minutes of normal time remaining. In contrast to Sunday - this time the Wingmakers were less than happy with a point and will be kicking themselves that they didn't take all three.
