AIRBUS cruised into the second round of the Huws Gray League Cup with a 4-0 demolition of Holywell Town, their ninth straight win in all competitions since the start of the season.
In truth, the final scoreline flattered the visitors as the goal tally could easily have been at least double but for some wayward finishing and fine saves from goalkeeper Andy Metcalf.
The result was never in doubt after the Wingmakers had taken an early lead through Matty McGinn, whose 20-yard free-kick took a deflection off the defensive wall to loop into the top corner with Metcalf wrong-footed. Ten minutes later, the lead was extended when Brady McGilloway, in excellent form against former club, got past Jake Cooke down the right and crossed to leave Asa Hamilton with the easiest of close range chances.
A third goal almost followed when Curtis Strong hit a post and Metcalf produced a superb save to deny Ryan Edwards on the stroke of half-time.
Airbus went on to dominate the second period and Lewis Buckley added a third at the far post from an excellent Strong delivery. McGinn got his second of the game with a superb strike from just outside the box and Strong should have scored a fifth in stoppage time but failed to get past Metcalf in a one-on-one.
Next-up in the second round is an away trip to Denbigh Town and the Wingmakers will look to maintain their excellent form in a crucial game away at Porthmadog next Saturday.
