A WEAKENED Airbus side were dumped out of the Huws Gray League Cup by local rivals Flint Town United at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium.
But considering that five key players were unavailable due to ineligibility and injury, there was no disgrace in the 1-0 margin of defeat against a strong visiting side.
In addition to injured duo Stef Edwards and Ashley Williams, three new signings were cup-tied, so two members of the Under-19 squad started the game with two more coming off the bench and all performed creditably.
Indeed, the final outcome might have been different had the Wingmakers been awarded a penalty when Abou Sanogo was brought down in the box by Jacob Lever. Instead, it was the visitors who took a 32nd-minute lead when Ieuan Hewitt fired into the far corner after some slack defending from Airbus.
There was little more incident of note in a closely-contested game with the Silkmen having an early second half chance cleared off the line and Karl Rogers firing high and wide.
Airbus struggled to create chances with only a late effort from sub Oli Lanceley threatening to deprive Flint of victory.
