RYAN Edwards provided the perfect hangover cure for Airbus after Friday night's humbling at Queens Park, scoring twice in a 3-2 win over Gresford Athletic at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium.

But, although the Wingmakers restored some pride by fighting back after going two goals down, the result must not be allowed to paper over the cracks that need working on before Saturday's tricky visit to Holywell Town.

Needing a good start, instead Airbus were a goal down after just seven minutes when a corner from the left was hooked into the far corner by Jack Mountford.

Luke Busumbru was narrowly wide of the target for the hosts from a long ball forward and, after Airbus had been denied what looked a certain penalty, Wes Baynes fired the free-kick just wide of the far post.

But, after a goal mouth scramble, Gresford went further ahead through Aaron Edwards and another defeat looked on the cards. But Airbus got back into the contest five minutes later when Busumbru was brought down in the box and Aaron Bowen fired home the resulting penalty.

Bowen should have equalised when he missed the target in a one-on-one with keeper Mike Platt but, moments later, the Wingmakers did get back on level terms as Bowen's pass found man-of-the-match Edwards, who fired into the far corner from 12 yards out.

Busumbru had a good chance in another one-on-one with the visiting keeper on the stroke of half-time, but failed to get a shot away in time. In the second half, Baynes had a long range saved well save by Platt, who also denied Leo Riley while, at the other end, Andy Coughlin pulled off a good save from a Joe Williams shot.

But, on 70 minutes, the contest was settled when, with his first touch, substitute Alfons Fosu-Mensa squared the ball for Edwards to score his second of the night.

Gresford looked to have equalised in a late attack, but the effort was flagged offside, and Fosu-Mensa almost added a fourth but was just wide of the target as Airbus held out for the three points.
