Lex X1 1-3 Airbus UK Broughton
(October 3rd 2009)
There are fewer nicer places to watch football than a sunny autumn day at Stansty
Park, with its estate parkland backdrop and wind-rustled trees just starting
to turn colour. It's even nicer when Airbus comfortably dispose of their
opposition with the minimum of fuss, although they did try and make it a
little more difficult than necessary and missed a bagful of chances.
Lex
were well-organised but unable to really come to terms with the gap between
Cymru Alliance & Welsh Premier and almost seemed resigned to their fate
from the beginning. Giovanni Feliciello hit the post direct from a corner in the
first minute. The opening goal arrived after 17', Paul McManus scoring after a
Marc-Lloyd Williams shot had been blocked, controlling the resultant little
cross and driving the ball home. After Lex had sliced a good chance wide Jiws
added the second with a rocket into the bottom corner from a Gio free kick
that was headed out and fell nicely for him to pounce. Generously they allowed
Michael Santangeli to pull one back immediately, just to keep the game
alive; in such a gentle, relaxed game, played in good spirit they evidently
felt there was no need to humiliate their hosts unnecessarily.
Despite lots of 'f......' motivation coming out of the Lex
dressing room at the break the game seemed done and dusted two minutes into
the second half, Ryan Edwards slamming in a penalty. He nearly got a second a
couple of minutes later, the 'keeper doing well to tip over. Airbus naturally
enough wanted to help out a bit and handed Lex a penalty of their own -
Kristian Rogers was having none of the silliness, though, brilliantly diving
away to his left to fend the ball away. If Lex were going to waste such
opportunities Airbus were not going to play along anymore and suddenly laid
siege to the home goal, although a fourth just wouldn't come, Jiws with a
number of attempts and Matty Cook as well, all foiled by the Lex custodian. In
the end, however, a job well done.
