Caersws
0-4 Airbus UK Broughton
(October 17th 2009)
Once we'd done with explaining
the intricacies of serving
bottle-conditioned beer to the
lady in the organic cafe/shop,
got over the shameful shock of
The Buck being turned into a
private residence and fighting
our way through an extremely
ropey pint at
the changed-hands Unicorn, it
was nice to settle down and
witness the 'Bus turn over an
extremely poor Caersws side
heading inexorably for the
Cymru Alliance.
Airbus set about the rout
straight away and the wonder
was that it was only 1-0 at
half time. Carl Owen forced
Dave Jones to tip over and the
goal arrived just after,
somewhat bizarrely, as it
seemed to bounce off at least
one Bluebird & Jiws via the
'keeper before landing in the
net; they all count. Airbus
then had an appeal for a
penalty for handball turned
down as the seemingly
inevitable second was eagerly
awaited. Ashley Williams put
one just over and man-of-the
-match Danny Desormeaux had
Jones pulling off a fantastic
one-handed save onto the post,
his follow-up being charged
down & away.
Into the second
half and the onslaught
continued. Ashley had a fine
left-footer saved at the
second attempt. A couple of
minutes later Carl Owen rode a
challenge and ran in,
tapped it to Dessie to tap in
past a static Jones. Just
after and Carl Owen got one
himself, racing onto a through
ball to tuck in for number
three. He nearly got a second
ten minutes later, from a Cook
cross his shot taking a
deflection and dropping just
over. Number four arrived
courtesy of Desormeaux again,
the ball bouncing around,
deflecting off Jones and
finally falling to Dessie to
loop a header into the net.
Mark Lloyd-Williams must have
felt a bit put out by now,
only having got his name on
the score sheet once but Jack
Abraham gave him a golden
chance for another just a
couple of yards out with some
skillful play, slipping the
ball into the dead-eye
marksman's path for a
tap-in only for it to whizz
under his boot & skip out for
a goal kick. Then came Danny
Desormeaux's chance of a
moment of history; a penalty
to become the first Airbus
player to score a hat-trick in
the Welsh Premier. It wasn't
going to be today, however,
the giant Jones diving to his
right for a good parrying
save, leaving Dessie with just
a pained expression. Nobody
really minded except normal
penalty-taker Ryan Edwards'
dad and at the final whistle,
with little decent beer in the
village apart from the
excellent Red Lion, it was a
quick dash to the station for
some happy celebratory boozing
in Newtown & Welshpool on the
way back.
