Bala Town 1-2
Airbus UK Broughton (April 16 2010)
You can't beat playing away in the mountains; in the
foothills of the Cambrians & the lee of Cwm Hirnnant lies
the little town of Bala, stuffed with pubs and showing off
its delightful hotchpotch neat ground of Maes Tegid.
The 'Bus, clearly relaxed by the peaceful, picturesque
scenery on the drive down, stood still as Bala Town,
desperate to win with only one game left, helped themselves
to a quick goal. The unthinkable third poor performance on
the trot loomed like a ghostly relegational spectre in the
evening sunshine.
Thankfully they
settled down & laid
siege to Y Bala's
goal for the whole
of the first half,
not getting much on
target, however,
other than Carl Owen
bringing a Gordon
Banks-style save off
Leon Bimpson as the
home side back
peddled and pleaded
constantly for some
help
from unsympathetic
referee Kevin Parry,
who coped well with
the pressure of the
night.
The second half saw
Bala raise their
game and go on the
offensive a bit more
but it was met in
the character of the
Airbus side not seen
for a couple of
games as they just
upped theirs to cope
with the new threat
& continue their own
quest. The equaliser
was brilliantly
engineered by Danny
Desormeaux, winning
the ball on the
right wing with Bala
appealing for an
earlier handball,
bursting in towards
the area and putting
a perfect cross onto
Carl Owen's head for
the tall striker to
gracefully flick
into the far side of
the net for 1-1.
Airbus continued to
confidently soak up
Bala's punts forward
and almost got the
winner, courtesy of
Dessie, teeing
himself up, head
over the ball, after
a weak Bimpson punch
but disappointingly
putting it past
the post instead of
getting it between
them. It was only a
taster, however, as
they drove forward,
again down the right
wing; after some
exquisite neat
interplay, Ryan
Edwards put in
the kind of cross
that won him his
international cap,
bulleting perfectly
onto the forehead of
Marc Lloyd-Williams,
bursting his
challenge aside to
bulge the back of
the net and win the
points. It could
have been wrapped up
a minute into
overtime as he ran
through off a
delicate Dessie pass
in a one-on-one with
Bimpson, the 'keeper
holding his
nerve 'til he
saw the whites of
Jiws' eyes to
produce a terrific
block when number
three looked
inevitable. Almost
there.
