Aberystwyth came
to Airbus with
every intent of
getting a win
after being
turfed out of
the Cup by Port
Talbot. By half
time, however,
despite the
distraction of
an enormous
Beluga
manoeuvring
behind the
runway end The'
Bus had killed
their fire and
in the second
half served up
an impressively
competent
performance to
take the victory
themselves.
With Aber
looking
enthusiastic
from the start,
Marc
Lloyd-Williams
wasted a
chance to sting
them early on,
shooting over
the bar with
plenty of time
to steady
himself. Jack
Abraham, who was
to have an
outstanding
afternoon down
the right flank,
shortly after
actually hit the
bar with one
he set up from
outside the area
that bounced
back into play.
At the other end
Mark Allen
contrived an
amazing
clearance,
hoofing the ball
onto his head
and rebounding
over his own
goal to much
snickering by
both teams. Much
more seriously
the giant
Aneurin Thomas
rose to meet
another corner
at the far post
to send a firm
header just wide
with Kristian
Rogers rooted.
Jiws was next up
with a series of
chances; a
well-hit shot
comfortably
saved by Cann
and then
slipping his man
but screwing
wide before
heading a Jack
Abraham flick
gently into
Cann's arms and
finally getting
through on a
one-on-one but
allowing the
'keeper to
clear.
The second half
was all Airbus
and for once
there was an air
of steel and a
feel of belief
in themselves
that this one
wasn't going to
slip away. They
still needed the
goal, though, to
kick start it
and it arrived
via a searing
low cross from
Giovanni
Feliciello,
stabbed in by
Carl Owen. Gio
looped over
another one
after carrying
the ball down
the wing that
hit the top of
the goal
and went over
with Cann in
trouble. Down
the left wing
ran Carl Owen
past this
marker, lofted
over a graceful
cross and there
was
Lloyd-Williams
to twist in the
air and send a
beautiful header
gliding inside
the far post for
the killer
second. Not only
that but his
thirteenth goal
of the campaign
set a new record
for number of
goals in a
season for an
Airbus player in
the Welsh
Premier and
there are still
fifteen games to
go! Jack Abraham
teed a shot up
for himself,
saved low down
and Aber had
their best
chance of the
half, Ryan
Fraughan curling
a great shot
past Rogers but
also the wrong
side of the
post. Airbus had
the final say,
Gio's corner
flicked by Carlo
and turned
spectacularly
one-handed over
by Steve Cann.
The remaining
minutes ticked
by without the
familiar
anguished
clock-watching,
the points
safely in the
bag.
