Airbus UK Broughton 0-2 Caersws
A scrappy, low quality game, despite which quite
a lot happened. Airbus started poorly, dragged themselves
down to Caersws' level & finally handed The Bluebirds the points, when, if
they'd only taken their chances, they could have helped themselves
to a nice win to set up the big match at Belle Vue against the champions
elect.
After 11' James McIntosh rose high to glide a
header in that grazed the post. On 18' Danny Desormeaux was set free and teed
his shot up but miskicked - 'keeper Rowley had committed and the ball still
very nearly trickled in past him, a lucky hand, however, steering it out for
a corner. At the other end, on 24', a looping cross was sent over, Chris
Doran watching the ball as it homed in onto Ross Jefferies' head
& he sent a free one shooting over the angle. On 29' Airbus
looked nailed on for the opener, a straight forward header for Mark
Cadwallader in front of goal a yard out but instead of a firm nod he got
only the faintest of glances & it incredibly went wide of the far post. On
38', as a passing Beluga distracted the Caersws defence, Macca lashed a
screamer just over from 25 yards.
That was almost as good as it got from The
'Bus as the second half descended rapidly before a mini peak and a final
almighty crash. On 50' Stewart White was allowed to sail through, Chris
Doran bringing off a good parry. The unattended Mark Davies sent a free header
onto the underside of the bar on 56' from close in. On 58' Graham
Jones tried a long range one that went just wide. Stewart White again was
just over on 62'. Airbus then had a few minutes themselves. Sub Phil
Molyneux had come on for Caddy and after a little passing move found himself
with a golden chance but Rowley was out to smother the ball while he was
thinking of shooting (65'), then Matty Cook crossed for McIntosh to head just
over (68') and finally the moment of the game up to then, Giovanni Feliciello
sending a magnificent free kick searing towards the net only to be met with a
fantastic flying one-hander from Rowley to turn the ball wide (71'). That was
the end of their effort. with Airbus players falling over each other Caersws
advanced on a three against one move they messed up completely before Stewart
White tucked in a free kick as Chris Doran stood rooted to his line(74').
Aeron Edwards hit the top of the bar (76') and the second duly arrived from a
Jefferies header with no one bothering to try and stop him as he spectacularly
glided it in past the diving helpless Doran (80'). There was just time left
for Tom Rowlands to acrobatically send a shot over in overtime but Airbus got
exactly what they deserved for another lacklustre performance.
