Late goal sinks the Wingmakers in Belfast

A LATE goal from new signing Michael Carvill saw Crusaders sentence Airbus to defeat in their final game before facing NK Lokomotiva in the Europa League.

In an entertaining contest at Seaview in  Belfast, both sides produced some open football at a competitive pace.

Crusaders started the brighter and had two half chances before they where awarded a penalty after Paul Heatley was fouled and Dairmuid O'Carroll cooly stepped up to convert the spot kick after 11 minutes.

But the Wingmakers were level within four minutes when Chris Budrys scored with a close range header as the Crusaders defence was caught out.

The game was both physical and competive and before long Airbus went 2-1 ahead. A long range effort from Jay Owen seemed to deceive everyone and the ball found its way into the corner of the net with keeper Sean O'Neill stranded.

But Crusaders fought back and, after a Paul Heatley effort was well saved by James Coates, the resulting corner produced a wonder goal. The ball was played in but eventually came to Heatley 30 yards out and with one kick he volleyed the ball beyond the keeper into the net on 26 minutes.

The second half saw multiple substitutions producing a stop-start affair.  Both keepers made fine saves but, as the game drew to a close, it was Carvill who won the contest with a 30-yarder.
