Airbus UK Broughton FC crashed to a 4-1 defeat in their eagerly-aniticipated friendly against FC United of Manchester. The Evo-Stick Premier side brought a large travelling contingent to North Wales and they will no doubt have enjoyed their afternoon at the Airfield.

The Wingmakers began positively with Rees Darlington pushing on and crossing for Craig Whitfield to head straight at FC United goalkeeper Sam Ashton. Despite the good start it was the away side who took the lead with a simple goal on 16 minutes. A deep cross from Carlos Roca was headed home by Scott Metcalfe in the area to put the visitors 1-0 up.

A minute after the goal Roca forced Airbus goalkeeper Niki-Lee Bulmer into a save and then saw a shot over the bar on half an hour. It was an even contest and the Wingmakers went close through Mike Hayes who drove a shot narrowly wide. Paul McManus also curled a free-kick straight into the wall.

On 37 minutes FC United doubled their advantage when a corner to the near post was headed into the far corner by Nicky Platt to make it 2-0. The visitors seemed to be finishig the half as the stronger side but saw their advantage halfed a minute before the break.

From a free-kick just outside the penalty area, Glenn Rule blasted shot into the top corner to make it 2-1 and to pull a goal back for Airbus. That was how it stayed at half-time as both teams chose to introduce a large number if substitutes to the action at the interval.

Within 10 minutes of the resumption the official had shown two yellow cards as the game heated up - Glenn Rule and Ben Deegan involved in a confrontation. Just past the hour mark Ian Sheridan curled a free-kick over the bar for Airbus. A few minutes later Ross Rule was also booked for a late challenge.

Oliver Devenney went close with a shot at the near post for FC United who were again beginning to shade the action. The flow of the game was disrupted by further substitutions from both sides, and those players who had not been replaced were beginning to tire.

FC United extended their lead to 3-1 with 77 minutes gone when a simple pull-back from the byline into the area found Deegan who finished from close-range. The away side continued to attack and good work heading towards goal by Chris Horne enabled him to take a shot which went just over the bar. Jake Cotteril also went for an effort from long-range.

Into the last 10 minutes Cotteril was booked for a nasty challenge on Ross Rule. With 8 minutes to go FC United increased their lead to 4-1 through a superb effort from Matty Wolfenden. The ex-Wrexham striker unleashed a curling shot from the far left outside the penalty area to beat Callum Hawthorne at his far post.

Goalkeeper Hawthorne was called into action twice more in the latter stages of the game - making a superb save from a diving Ben Deegan header. Unfortunately the Wingmakers were unable to reduce the deficit and had to accept a slightly harsh 4-1 defeat. They will hope for better when Luton Town visit the Airfield on a week on Tuesday.
