Airbus continued their unbeaten Pre Season Schedule with a 5-3 victory away at Porthmadog yesterday afternoon. The Wingmakers travelled with a strong squad that included Kristian Rogers for the first time this pre season but without Matty Woodward and Matthew Cook.
The match at YTraeth was played in incessant rain throughout, but was a thoroughly entertaining affair for the supporters of both sides. The Cymru Alliance outfit held sway in the early exchanges and the crowd were blessed with some outstanding finishing throughout from both sides.
The Airbus defence seemed to struggle at times on an extremley greasy surface and it was no surprise when the home side drew first blood with Barry Evans scoring from a corner kick. The game then turned dramatically with the Wingmakers scoring 3 goals in as many minutes leading up to half time. In the thirty eighth minute Jake Cassidy finished off after a left wing move which saw Richie Dorman brought down in the penalty area by home keeper Richard Harvey and with the referees whistle to his mouth and about to point to the spot the ball broke to the promising youngster who finished with a shot into the right corner of the net. Almost from the kick off (40th minute) a smart run by Carl Owen saw him send a thunderous shot from eighteen yards arrow into the top left hand corner of the net. Then before the celebrations had died down Jake Cassidy broke clear and with the home side appealing for offside Cassidy drew the keeper and curled a shot around him. Within two minutes the home side pulled a goal back from another corner when Gareth Owen netted.
Half time 2-3
The second half was a more sedate affair punctuated with the usual mass of changes in personnel. The home side equalised with a fine run and shot from one of the home sides substitutions. Before we saw two fine strikes from Paul McManus, one of the Airbus substitutes on for new signing Andy Moran. Firstly finishing off a fine run down the left hand side by Tom Rowlands and finding himself unmarked at the back stick and firing past Harvey and then finishing off after the home side lost possession and slamming a right foot shot in off bar and post.
Porth' can feel a tad disappointed in gleaning nothing result wise, but look strong going into their Cymru Alliance campaign and as always the most hospitable of hosts.
